Godspeed Sizing and Fit: A Practical Guide
The most expensive mistake with this label is sizing, and the reason is structural rather than careless. Since the house cut is boxy and oversized-relaxed, there is volume built in before you choose anything, and the instincts you normally trust stop applying. Batches are small, which means the size you needed may not exist by the time you realise you ordered wrong. A mistake is not a trivial sum when 2026 market estimates put hoodies between $200 and $270, sets from $155 to $360, denim around $250 and cargo pants near $350. What follows offers a body-measurement starting point in inches and centimetres, then works through each category. Read it with a tape measure in hand.
Measure Yourself Before Anything Else
Measurements off your own body, not from a garment you already own, are where every useful sizing decision starts. Chest and natural waist circumference resolve most cases, and sleeve and inseam handle the rest. Run the tape around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level under the arms, leaving one finger of slack so nothing compresses. The waist goes above the hip bone and below the ribs, not the line your jeans sit on. Work over a thin shirt or bare skin, because heavyweight fleece adds up to two inches, or five centimetres, of false reading. Because product information circulates in both units, record both, rather than converting under pressure.
- Chest: run the tape level around the fullest point and leave one finger of slack.
- The natural waist: above the hip bone and below the ribs, stomach relaxed.
- Sleeve: centre back of the neck, over the shoulder and down to the wrist bone.
- Length of the body: from the highest point of the shoulder to where you want the hem.
- Inseam: take it barefoot, crotch seam to floor, for a stacked leg.
The Reference Table
One caveat first: the table below translates body measurements https://gods-speed.org/shorts-sweatpants/ into a starting letter size. Treat them as general body-measurement bands, not an official chart published by the brand, and as a defensible starting point rather than a guarantee. Any product page that lists its own garment measurements always outranks a general table like this one. Body numbers describe you and garment measurements describe the piece laid flat, so never confuse the two. The final column describes how each band behaves once the boxy house cut is applied, which a standard chart never tells you. Use chest for tops, waist for bottoms, and read across rather than down.

| Size label | Chest (in) | Chest (cm) | Waist (in) | Waist (cm) | How it behaves in a boxy cut |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | 35 to 37 | 89 to 94 | 28 to 30 | 71 to 76 | Relaxed over a slim frame; body runs short |
| M | 38 to 40 | 97 to 102 | 31 to 33 | 79 to 84 | Chest runs wide, close to true oversized |
| L | 41 to 43 | 104 to 109 | 34 to 36 | 86 to 91 | Oversized throughout and long in the sleeve |
| XL | 44 to 46 | 112 to 117 | 37 to 39 | 94 to 99 | Extremely wide; length increases slower than width |
| 2XL | 47 to 49 | 119 to 124 | 40 to 42 | 102 to 107 | All volume; the only reason to go up is length |
| 3XL | 50 to 52 | 127 to 132 | 43 to 45 | 109 to 114 | Maximum width, so check the shoulder drop carefully |
What Boxy Actually Changes
A boxy garment is cut wide relative to its length, which is not the same as simply being large. A conventional tee grows in chest and body length at once, so proportions stay roughly the same. With a boxy cut, width outpaces length, so every size up makes the piece squarer rather than longer. Go up a size chasing length on a boxy godspeed shirt and you gain width and almost no length. If you are tall, the limiting measurement is body length rather than chest. If you are over about six foot two, or 188 centimetres, should look at body length first and take the width that comes with it.
The Size-Down Question
Whether to size down is the most common question about god speed clothing, and the answer depends on the look you are after. Stay with your true size from the table when the designed silhouette is the goal. One size down usually achieves a normal relaxed fit on tops, when that is what you are after. The cost is length in the body and the sleeve, acceptable on a tee and obvious on a hoodie. Sizing down fails on outerwear, because a jacket cut for layering becomes unwearable over fleece once a size is removed. One size, tops only, and always deliberately: that is the rule for sizing down.
Hoodies and Heavyweight Fleece
A godspeed hoodie is the clearest example of how fabric weight changes sizing in ways thin material does not. Heavy fleece stands away from the body rather than draping, so it holds its own shape and adds bulk beyond its measurements. Two garments with identical flat measurements and the hoodie will still look larger than the lightweight sweatshirt. Pullovers and zip-through versions also behave differently, since the zip adds structure down the front and limits how much the body billows. Fleece shrinks slightly if washed hot, so buy the fit you want and wash cold to keep it. Keep a layering hoodie sized to your body, since the outerwear is already generous.
Tees, and What to Layer With Them
Being the most forgiving category, the tee is the cheapest place to learn the sizing. Between $128 and $200 on observed 2026 market estimates, with most around $150 to $170, sleeveless near $170 and long sleeve near $200. With no fabric weight to disguise it, the boxy cut is at its most obvious here, and the shoulder seam sits past the shoulder point deliberately. Layered and long sleeve styles sit slightly closer through the body than the standard short sleeve. Because sleeveless pieces open wider at the armhole than most people expect, a size down is worth considering. Two sizes of godspeed shirts side by side cost less than one wrong guess on a $350 cargo pant.
Bottoms: Sweats, Cargo Pants and Jeans
Bottoms are read off the waist column, not the chest column, and leg length becomes a second variable. Matching-set sweatpants come cut relaxed and usually track true waist size without any adjustment. Broad in the thigh with a flared or stacked hem, cargo pants and premium denim are meant to pool over the shoe, not break cleanly. A pair that looks too long on arrival is usually correct, and hemming strips out the shape the pattern was built around. Denim observed around $250 is garment washed, and washed cotton gives at the waist as you wear it, so the tighter of the two options often wins. Size each half of a set independently.
Outerwear: Varsity, Moto and Puffer
Nowhere is there less room for error than outerwear, and the reason is scarcity, not construction. Runs of 200 units with numbered authenticity tags were stated for the F.T.D and Chrome Seduction varsity jackets, so swapping for another size is not a realistic fallback. Vegan leather and vegan suede do not stretch, so on a wool-bodied varsity with those sleeves, an arm that is snug on day one stays snug. Wool bodies are already cut for a layer beneath, so use your true size instead of going up one for fleece. On a leather moto the shoulders decide everything, and the material gives even less. Puffers are the exception where a slightly larger size is defensible, since insulation squashes down.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
A few repeated assumptions, rather than bad luck, cause most sizing failures. People measure against something already in the wardrobe without checking whether it was cut boxy or conventional. They add a size chasing length on a cut where length barely moves, or size down for a sharper line on a jacket that needs the space. Measuring over a thick layer or taking the waist at the trouser line puts people a full size out. A final group buys a matching set in one size out of habit, then finds the top right and the bottoms wrong. Running the checks below avoids almost all of it.
- Your body, not a favourite hoodie, is what gets measured, in both inches and centimetres.
- Look up the product page’s own flat measurements before you trust any general table.
- Before you pick a size, decide between intended oversized and relaxed.
- Let body length be the limiting number when you are tall, rather than chest width.
- Wool and vegan leather are never candidates for sizing down, because there is no stretch to recover.
- Size each half of a set on its own and confirm both are in stock.
